I'm kind of a Big Deal around here

June 19th, 2008 at 05:42 am

Ok, I hope don't hurt anyone's feelings, but I have to say this. It has been bugging me for a while.

If you have to proclaim from the rooftops that you are something, that means that you aren't.

Jenny, you ain't from the block no more.

Faith, you used to be from Mississippi, but that ship has sailed. You are no longer a country girl. Having to write a song saying that you are means you aren't.

If you have to tell everyone you are a celebrity, you aren't. You may have a following, and good for you. But, geez, Rachel Ray is a celebrity. Emeril is a celebrity. Wolfgang Puck. Martha Stewart. You aren't.

I'm guilty of it too. When I was 18 I worked at a grain elevator. There was a guy there who was in his late 20s and I thought he was cute. Every time I saw him, I spouted off about how "I'm not that young." Of course I was, if I was saying that. Like a 4 year old stomping their foot yelling "I am too old enough!"

LOL - Look out, you may now be a jealous folk who is "razzing"! We know who you are and where you hail from! Quick, call security!

But I'm so important! I have to make sure that you know that.

    Love,

And another thing, don on those sunglasses so the bulbs from the flashing papparazzi don't blind you! You won't be able to blog.

It certainly is a fascinating phenomenon...Also, people who use a lot of exclamation points and all-caps, or use a writing style like they're the source of information and the rest of us the adoring readers, make me uncomfortable.

    Thank you, Cptacek.

OMG! I think I know what your talking about and it drove me crazy thinking I was the only one who was a bit put off by it. Theres different levels of celebrity and comparing yourself to Brittney Spears or Paris Hilton status is incomparable.

Oh, yes, ceejay, I agree about the "listen to me, I know more about your situation than you do" blogs. Annoying!

Okay, so I think I'm lost, now. I assumed the wrong person.

No, no, snoopycool, you were right. My comment to ceejay was about other things that annoy me.

The know-it-alls get on my nerves also.

I assume you guys are referring to Sicily Yoder, as I've read her blogs on here- I have been lurking here for quite some time, and see its only a couple out of over 70,000 readers taht are upset about her posts. I think she is a celebrity status- maybe D-list, not A-list, but from her posts, she seems just excited about all of her travels...I didn't take it as off-the-wall, as I have bought her first book on Amazon, as well as her cookbooks, and attended one of her Amish presentations- there wasn't even standing room...and newscrews, plus regular reporters followed her to her car, and she did have two bodyguards and an assistant, and, Yes, I would say it is correct to call he, "D-List." You never know- Kathy Griffin is D-list, so Sicily could end up doing a show for BRAVO!

Maybe she is. Cool dat. But I stand by my assertion that others can recognize the truth, and if you have to proclaim it, it probably isn't true.

I agree with, Jeff, she is D-list, and not the typical Hollywood A-List, or she would be on Access Hollywood or on the front cover of OK magazine- but I have to admit that she is very fascinating- I read all the blogs on here...I have to confess, at work when I'm bored, and find Ima Saver ( not because she shares my name), Sicily Yoder, and Cptacek to be the most neat folks on here. I live in Virginia, and asked my sister, who works for the television station, if she knew of Sicily Yoder, and she said, "of course...that Amish girl that turned into a famous author." She said that she had covered her when she did a cooking show on stage at an event there...and she did have an assistant and a hunky bodyguard ( don't think I would mind having the later) there, so I would say she is indeed D-list. Well...back to work-is it Friday yet???

Well, Julie, thanks for the compliment!

I think this all started because she wasn't in charge of her own blog. Her publicist put the most annoying things on there, IMO. I would love to hear about her real life, not the life the publicist wants us to see.

Jeff and Julie have very similar writing styles...LOL

I just too back my own blog, and I hope everyone will like the real me- its totally different than how Ms. Shelly wanted me to be portrayed. I am sorry if she offended some of you. I am really like most on here...I'm here because I love to talk about saving money, and to see what everyone else is doing to save money. I do amdit, though, I do get excited about my travel writing, mainly because I grew up poor, and we neve rhad a vacation. The first vacation my dad and I took was on my first book tour years ago, so I love to travel..and to show pictures and talk about it.

Sicily, I have been reading your blog since you took it back. I think it is awesome now. I think we can agree that it was fake before? Hey, be excited about your travel! Just REALLY be excited, don't be excited because someone says you should be!

  18. SicilyYoder Says:

Yes...my publicist really does things differently than I do-- she was scheduling me for all these red carpet events, and icky photo shoots, when that just isn't me, and never will be- I like being me- the country girl who wears a ponytail all the time, and works in the garden with mom- that is the real me- and saving money is my passion, ever since I was little. Living with the Old Order Amish made me even more thrifty...but I do like dressing up for the holidays- in cool-looking sweaters ( don't know about that this year- I am having terrible hot flashes), and cool holiday jewelry- I lOVE the $10.00 store at the casinos- I stop by one when I'm working near Carrollton- they have a wonderful buffet and the $10.00 store. I got so depressed- when she was trying to stuff me into a, "celebrity", because, being former Amish, I don't believe in having vanity to the degree that she was trying to expose me as...I know you know what I mean- all the glamour-icky stuff.
